Mozambique Elections 315: Two top aides of Venâncio Mondlane gunned down

The bulletin reports that in the early hours of 19 October 2024 gunmen blocked a car on Avenida Joaquim Chissano in Maputo and shot dead the two front-seat passengers: lawyer Elvino Dias, described as having been election agent (mandatário) of Mondlane's CAD coalition before it was de-registered, and Paulo Guambe, election agent of PODEMOS; a third passenger was injured. It notes that Dias was at the time preparing Mondlane's challenge to the Constitutional Council, due to be filed that week, and that the assassination of senior political leaders was new and a major escalation from previous killings of civil-society and local political figures. The bulletin is an advocacy newsletter and states its own view that the election was fraudulent.
