Large number of votes expected at the collection count

Press release of 15 September 2026 announcing that on Wednesday 16 September the municipal election committees would count the advance votes that had not reached polling stations in time for the election-night count, together with late overseas votes. The Authority estimated close to 300,000 such votes, more than at earlier elections, and expected an updated preliminary Riksdag result only on the Thursday. The votes are counted in 314 collection districts, each a municipal constituency or a whole municipality, so that ballot secrecy is not compromised, and are then handed to the county administrative boards for the final count.
