Bogus vote tallies and candidate disqualifications top election-day disinformation

Tsek.ph, a fact-checking collaboration of 34 academic, media and civil-society partners supported by the University of the Philippines · May 12, 2022

Election-day analysis by the Tsek.ph fact-checking coalition. Its partners published ten fact checks on fabricated partial tallies showing Marcos leading, two showing Marcos and Sara Duterte winning, two showing Duterte dominating, five showing Robredo leading and one showing a Robredo-Pangilinan landslide in overseas votes, all circulated while polls were open or before counting could lawfully begin under COMELEC Resolution 10695. The earliest fabricated presidential tally appeared at 8:27 am; one post alleging that results had been preprogrammed collected 145,000 shares. The analysis also documents a forged COMELEC document purporting to disqualify Makabayan bloc party-list groups two days before the vote.
