“The election was annulled, which proves the count was falsified”

Courts annul elections for procedural breaches and campaign-law violations far more often than for fraud, and the distinction is routinely collapsed once the headline is written. Austria’s 2016 run-off was annulled over how postal votes were handled; the Constitutional Court found no fraud, the challenge alleged none, and the re-run returned the same winner by a wider margin. Romania’s 2024 presidential election was annulled over campaign conduct and financing; a recount had already confirmed the first-round tally and no ballot falsification was alleged or found. Reading an annulment as a fraud finding inverts what the ruling actually says.
