Your vote is secret

Election Authority voter guidance, published 17 June 2026, on how the secrecy of the vote is protected. Voters must be alone when they take their ballot papers, which are placed behind a screen so that they can be taken without anyone else seeing; only polling staff at election-day and advance-voting premises may lay out the ballots; voters must by law be alone behind the voting screen unless a disability or similar need requires assistance; and envelopes are mixed together before they are opened, so that no vote can be traced to the voter who cast it.
