Russia: Anti-war politician Lev Shlosberg sentenced to 11 years and one month in prison amid mounting pressure on his Yabloko party

Amnesty International · 17. august 2026

Amnesty International statement of 17 August 2026. It reports that the Pskov City Court sentenced Lev Shlosberg, deputy chair of Yabloko — which Amnesty describes as the only registered Russian party that has consistently opposed the war against Ukraine — to 11 years and one month in a penal colony under Criminal Code articles on repeated 'discreditation' of the armed forces and dissemination of 'deliberately false information' about them, over his part in an online debate and a shared Daily Mirror front page. It notes that the Supreme Court barred the party from the State Duma election on 10 August and that at least 30 supporters were detained outside the court on the day of the appeal hearing, 17 August, and calls for Shlosberg's release.
