Two years on, over a third of General Elections 2024 petitions await disposal

Dawn · May 11, 2026

Reporting FAFEN's ninth update on the election tribunals, this article records that 246 of 374 petitions against the 2024 results had been decided by the end of April 2026 and that 123 of those decisions were appealed to the Supreme Court, of which 18 had been decided. It identifies the single constituency in which the declared 2024 outcome has been reversed: in NA-251 Sherani-cum-Zhob-cum-Killa Saifullah the Supreme Court set aside the tribunal's repolling order and declared the Pashtoonkhwa National Awami Party candidate the returned candidate, finding that the Returning Officer 'had deliberately and unlawfully altered the results of Form 45'. Of the four petitions tribunals accepted, all in Balochistan, three produced repolling orders rather than a reversal of the result.
