Preliminary Statement by the Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission to the Presidential, Legislative and Provincial Elections in the Republic of Mozambique

Southern African Development Community Electoral Observation Mission · October 11, 2024

The SADC mission, 53 observers from ten member states deployed across all eleven provinces under the leadership of former Zanzibar president Amani Abeid Karume, concluded that the pre-election and voting phases of the 2024 elections were professionally organised and conducted in an orderly, peaceful and free atmosphere. The statement covers only the pre-election process, voting day and counting; it says the mission's long-term observers would remain until 20 October to observe results management and announcement, and that a final report would follow within 30 days. It urged Mozambique to move the composition of its election management bodies away from party representation to a non-partisan model. No SADC final report has been located.
