South Korea elects Lee Jae-myung president

Reports the outcome of the 3 June 2025 snap presidential election with turnout of 79.4 per cent, the fourth highest since democratisation in 1987, on an electorate of 44,391,871 registered voters, of whom 44,133,617 were domestic and 258,254 overseas. Lee Jae-myung's 17,287,513 votes were the most ever cast for a candidate in a South Korean presidential election, and he was sworn in immediately after the NEC confirmed the result, without the customary transition period.
