CCMG Preliminary Statement on the Conduct of the 2026 General Elections

Christian Churches Monitoring Group · August 14, 2026

Zambia's main citizen monitoring coalition deployed 1,500 stationary and 156 mobile monitors on election day plus 330 long-term observers, and reports that 96 per cent of polling stations opened by 07:00 and that setup, voting and counting procedures were generally followed and transparent. Its pre-election annex records 79 documented incidents of campaign violence including four fatalities, a final register of 8,786,300 voters of whom only 1,762,801 were newly registered against a 3.5 million target, and a finding that the 2026 boundary delimitation undermined the constitutional principle of equal representation. It states that the ECZ did not provide CCMG with a copy of the voters register.
