Hack-and-leak works on timing rather than content: material is released close enough to the vote that verification cannot catch up, and genuine documents are mixed with forgeries so that denying the fakes appears to concede the rest. The MacronLeaks dump landed against France’s pre-election media blackout and contained obvious forgeries. Star Blizzard’s release of UK-US trade documents before the 2019 general election followed the same shape. Recorded as contested rather than debunked because the leaked material is often authentic — what is false is the framing that a theft timed for maximum disruption is a disinterested disclosure.
