The election faces mass appeals – may set a record

Report of 22 September 2026 that the Election Review Board had registered close to 700 appeals, with more than 1,500 submissions still unregistered, each of which can contain up to three appeals, one for each election. The previous record was 723 appeals of the election result in 2018; in 2022 there were 406. About 400 of the registered appeals concerned the Riksdag election. The Board's head of secretariat, Emma Hellman, wrote that many had arrived because of the alleged fraud in Borlänge, that most appeared to concern the same alleged irregularities, and that it is not the number of appeals that decides whether an error occurred or affected the result. Other complaints concern long queues at some polling stations, including in Umeå. Appeals can be lodged until 29 September.
