Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act, No. 13 of 2025

The amending Act, assented to on 18 December 2025, replaced Article 47 so that National Assembly elections are conducted under a mixed-member proportional representation system: first-past-the-post for constituency seats and proportional representation for seats reserved for women, youth and persons with disabilities. A new Article 47(4) provides that those reserved seats are distributed after a general election by the Electoral Commission to political parties in proportion to the total number of valid votes received by a presidential candidate. The Act also amends Article 58 so that the number of constituencies equals the number of constituency-based seats, and amends Article 52 so that an election proceeds on the prescribed date where a nominated candidate resigns or is disqualified by a court.
