Amended official results released

New Zealand Electoral Commission · November 9, 2023

Six days after declaring the official result, the Commission reissued it. It listed three voting places with party-vote data entry errors (announced on 7 November), 15 voting places with candidate-vote data entry errors, one electorate where special-vote data was entered incorrectly, five voting places that entered election-day votes as advance votes, and 620 East Coast votes sitting in a ballot box at electorate headquarters that were included in the preliminary count but missed in the official count. The corrections added 693 party votes and 708 candidate votes; turnout stayed at 78.2% and there were no changes to the overall results, successful candidates or allocation of seats. The amended table records 2,851,220 party votes, 2,884,118 votes cast, 71 electorate and 51 list seats, and National on 1,085,850 party votes (38.08%). The Chief Electoral Officer apologised and said it was disappointing the errors were not picked up in quality assurance; the Board announced it would commission an independent review.
