“Election claims delivered by apparently professional news presenters who do not exist”

A PRC-linked network surged around Taiwan’s January 2024 election with thousands of videos and comments using synthetic audio and AI-generated presenters, giving fabricated claims the format of a broadcast bulletin. The production values did not translate into reach: Google found practically no organic engagement with the campaign. The case is worth holding onto for that reason — it is the clearest available demonstration that volume and polish are not the same as influence, which is the assumption most foreign-interference narratives rest on.
