#KeepItOn: Senegalese authorities must immediately reinstate mobile internet access to all

Access Now and the #KeepItOn coalition · February 5, 2024

Access Now and the #KeepItOn coalition documented the nationwide suspension of mobile internet ordered by Senegal's Ministry of Communications, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy after the presidential election scheduled for 25 February 2024 was postponed. Published on 5 February and updated on 13 February 2024, it records that authorities shut mobile internet down on 4 February for three days, with access restored on 7 February, and that a further suspension was imposed on 13 February, which it calls the second such shutdown in eight days. The authorities justified the measures by the spread of what they called hateful and subversive messages on social media amid threats to public order; Access Now assessed them as disproportionate restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly and called for immediate restoration of access.
