MacronLeaks

#MacronLeaks · EMLEAKS

The April–May 2017 hack-and-leak operation against Emmanuel Macron's En Marche campaign. Spear-phishing stole campaign emails; roughly nine gigabytes of them — salted with forged documents — were dumped online on 5 May 2017, hours before France's mandatory pre-vote media blackout, then amplified as #MacronLeaks by bot networks and US alt-right accounts. It did not change the result. French authorities were cautious on attribution at the time, but the United States later indicted GRU Unit 74455 officers for the operation.
