Russia 2026 State Duma Election

in 59 daysSeptember 20, 2026

The presidential decree of 16 June 2026 scheduled the ninth State Duma election for 20 September. All 450 seats are contested under the mixed electoral system.

Russia elects the State Duma under conditions no international observer mission has been able to assess against democratic standards for years: OSCE/ODIHR did not observe the 2021 Duma election after being offered a numerically restricted mission. The entry is listed for completeness and comparison, not because a competitive contest is expected.

What to watch

Each point is classified under the same five categories as a documented finding, so an upcoming election reads with the same frame as a past one.

  • Violaciones del proceso

Whether any credible international observation is admitted at all, and on what terms. Absence of observation is itself a finding about an election's assessability.

  • Violaciones del proceso

Whether candidate registration and ballot access are used to exclude opposition before voting begins — the stage at which a contest is most often decided in this system.

  • Operaciones de información

Whether the domestic result is used abroad as a template narrative about Western elections, a pattern documented in the operations this database already tracks.

Where the date comes from

Scheduled dates come from national election authorities and are linked above. Dates can move; where one is not yet fixed by decree it is marked as expected rather than confirmed. Listing an election here is not a prediction that anything improper will occur — it is a statement about what would be worth checking if it did.
