Latvian State Security Service 2022 Annual Report

State Security Service of Latvia (Valsts drošības dienests) · April 2023

The annual report's section on security for the Saeima elections states that the 14th Saeima elections were held peacefully and without any attempt by foreign states to influence the outcome, that no significant infringements were established through election monitoring, and that the service opened no criminal cases for unlawful influencing of voters or tampering with results. Its analysis of the information space did not indicate any real attempts by Russia to influence the elections, although it found that some groups and political parties made unjustified claims doubting election security and repeated claims made by states hostile to Latvia. The report also records that the service preventively warned the party For Stability!, which it says won the votes of the pro-Kremlin electorate, and the party's officials not to support Russia under 2022 amendments to the Law on Political Parties, and that Tatjana Favorska, a board member of the Society of Russians in Latvia and a Latvian Russian Union candidate in these elections, was awarded Russia's Pushkin medal on Vladimir Putin's order.
