Referral to Police (enrolling and voting while on the Corrupt Practices List)

The Commission announced that it had referred an individual to Police for enrolling and voting while on the Corrupt Practices List, and recorded that on 21 November 2023 it had referred three other individuals for the same conduct. It cited section 118 of the Electoral Act 1993, which makes it an offence to make a false statement in any application, certificate or information supplied for enrolment purposes, and section 227, which makes it an offence to vote while on the Corrupt Practices List. The list names people disqualified from enrolling or voting for three years following conviction for a corrupt practice associated with elections. The Commission stated that the alleged breaches were with Police and that it would not comment further.
