Ukrainian opposition candidate in the 2004 presidential election. He led the first round, was declared the loser of the November run-off, and successfully challenged that declaration in the Supreme Court, which annulled it and ordered a repeat vote that he won. He was poisoned with dioxin during the campaign; responsibility has never been established.
