Nigeria 2027 General Election

in 212 daysFebruary 20, 2027

Presidential and National Assembly elections are on 20 February. Most governorship and State House of Assembly elections follow on 6 March 2027.

Nigeria's 2027 cycle will be the first general election under the Electoral Act 2026 and the first led by INEC chair Joash Amupitan. The core integrity tests are inclusive registration and PVC collection, nationwide logistics and security, reliable BVAS accreditation, prompt publication and reconciliation of polling-unit forms, and visible implementation of lessons from 2023.

What to watch

Each point is classified under the same five categories as a documented finding, so an upcoming election reads with the same frame as a past one.

  • Violaciones del proceso

Whether INEC updates its detailed timetable and regulations to the Electoral Act 2026 early enough for parties, voters, observers and courts to understand nominations, campaigns, accreditation and results procedures.

  • Violaciones del proceso

Whether election security protects voters, staff, journalists and observers, and whether authorities respond consistently to intimidation, organized violence and vote-buying risks documented in 2023.

  • Anomalías estadísticas

Whether signed polling-unit forms are uploaded promptly to IReV and reconcile with ward, local-government, state and national collation. Missing or delayed images require investigation but do not alone establish a false result.

  • Operaciones de información

Whether fabricated result forms, false BVAS-failure claims or impersonated INEC announcements spread during the two-week results window, and whether corrections link to authenticated forms and formal notices.

Where the date comes from

Scheduled dates come from national election authorities and are linked above. Dates can move; where one is not yet fixed by decree it is marked as expected rather than confirmed. Listing an election here is not a prediction that anything improper will occur — it is a statement about what would be worth checking if it did.
