Sweden 2026 Riksdag Election

in 52 daysSeptember 13, 2026

Fixed by law as the second Sunday in September. Riksdag, regional and municipal elections are held on the same day, electing 349 members.

Sweden's first general election since completing NATO accession, run on an all-paper ballot with manual counting — a system with few of the technical attack surfaces that dominate election-integrity debate elsewhere. That makes the information environment, rather than the count, the place where pressure would show.

What to watch

Each point is classified under the same five categories as a documented finding, so an upcoming election reads with the same frame as a past one.

  • Operaciones de información

Whether coordinated inauthentic activity targets the campaign in Swedish, and whether it works through diaspora or minority-language channels rather than the mainstream Swedish-language space.

    See the source
  • Injerencia extranjera

Whether hostile activity is directed at the campaign environment following NATO accession, and whether it is documented by Swedish authorities in time to be assessed before polling day.

  • Violaciones del proceso

How the open-ballot-display system, long criticised for making a voter's choice visible while selecting ballots at the polling station, performs against secrecy-of-the-vote standards.

Where the date comes from

Scheduled dates come from national election authorities and are linked above. Dates can move; where one is not yet fixed by decree it is marked as expected rather than confirmed. Listing an election here is not a prediction that anything improper will occur — it is a statement about what would be worth checking if it did.
