Hakainde Hichilema defeated incumbent president Edgar Lungu and the result was followed by a peaceful transfer of power. The EU observation mission described election administration as technically well managed while documenting unequal campaign conditions, restrictions on assembly and movement, abuse of incumbency and election-period internet restrictions.

The ECZ table expresses each candidate's percentage against all 4,959,332 ballots cast, including 126,569 rejected ballots (2.55%). Candidate votes totalled 4,832,763.
