Press release on the challenges faced by the Election Commission during the electoral process

Election Commission of Pakistan · February 12, 2024

The Election Commission's own account, issued four days after the 8 February 2024 poll, of why the count was slow. It sets out the security environment in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the suspension of mobile telephony recommended to the federal government by the security agencies, and the resulting loss of connectivity, alongside long distances between polling stations and returning officers' offices, night travel, snow and severe weather, and sit-ins by losing candidates on highways, as the causes of delay in the transmission and consolidation of results. The Commonwealth Observer Group cites this release as the Commission's confirmation of the causal link between the cellular shutdown and the failure of its Election Management System.
