Two Years On: Over a Third of GE-2024 Election Petitions Still Await Decision (ninth update on election tribunals)

FAFEN's ninth update on the election tribunals hearing challenges to the 8 February 2024 results reports that by the end of April 2026 tribunals had decided 246 of 374 petitions, 73 of 124 concerning National Assembly constituencies and 173 of 250 concerning Provincial Assembly constituencies, leaving 128 pending. The statutory deadline under section 148(5) of the Elections Act expired in October 2024. Disposal ranged from 94 per cent in Balochistan and 77 per cent in Punjab to 29 per cent in Sindh, with none of the Islamabad petitions decided. Of the 246 decided cases 123 were appealed to the Supreme Court, which had decided 18 appeals, accepting three fully or partly and rejecting 15.
