IACHR Urges State of Guatemala to Respect General Election Results

The Commission records that on 28 August 2023 the Supreme Electoral Tribunal announced the official results of the presidential run-off, electing Bernardo Arevalo and Karin Herrera, and that on the same day the TSE's Citizen Registry declared the Semilla party's legal status suspended in compliance with a 12 July warrant from the Seventh Investigative Criminal Court. It rejects that suspension and urges Guatemala to respect the election results as the highest expression of popular sovereignty.
