Asunto Juan Sebastian Chamorro y otros respecto de Nicaragua: Medidas Provisionales, Resolucion de 22 de noviembre de 2021

Inter-American Court of Human Rights · November 22, 2021

The Court declared that Nicaragua's rejection of and failure to comply with its provisional-measures orders of 24 June, 9 September and 4 November 2021 amounted to contempt of the binding force of its decisions, and resolved to report that non-compliance to the OAS General Assembly under article 65 of the American Convention. It found that 21 of the 22 beneficiaries were in detention, the twenty-second being at risk of detention, and that, prima facie, the prosecutions formed a pattern of harassment and criminalisation that would have had effects on those persons' participation in the November general elections, and it again ordered their immediate release.
